Welcome to the Oil Industries Club Website.
It is a great honour to be President of this long standing and well respected Club. The OIC was founded in 1925 as a place for members of the oil industry to meet, network and socialise.
Originally the Club was for senior management working with the major oil companies but today the membership extends to all areas of the industry including contractors and suppliers making it even more extensive and useful for networking. Having said that the Club is in existence to allow members of our industry to have fun and relax: speakers can be from entertainment, business and industry and are informative and entertaining. We have hosted speakers from Prime Ministers to top sportsmen including Michael Portillo, Norman Lord Tebbit , Andrew Neil, Wayne Barnes and Chris Cowdrey to name a few.
Reviewing past years the Club has hosted monthly lunches with an entertaining speaker, an annual black tie dinner, often with a Government Minister in attendance, a ball, Christmas and a sportsman’s lunch. The industry has gone through many changes in recent years reducing headcount and putting greater pressure on those still working in the industry. The Club has responded to this and reduced the number of functions. However we still enjoy a wonderful Christmas lunch held in the Connaught Rooms and a very successful Sportsman’s lunch currently held at the Oval. Both these major events often have an entertaining speaker and in the case of the Oval, a cricket match to enjoy throughout the day.
We are keen to add additional events to our calendar and so we have organised a Fly Fishing day for both novice and experienced fly fishermen. Our novices will get full instruction. It is hoped this will become an annual event on our calendar.
In early 2019 the Club signed an association agreement with the Worshipful Company of Fuellers a City of London livery company. This association extends the Fuellers’ events to OIC members which include a number of technical lectures, industry visits and very impressive dinners held in the City. In return Fuellers’ members can attend OIC functions ensuring an even wider and more diverse energy sector networking opportunity.
The Club has a very successful Golf Society that has been running for over 85 years and plays at a number of extremely good golf courses including Worplesdon, Hankley Common, Woking , New Zealand and Denham to name a few. We have also played in the Federation of Petroleum Suppliers and Fuellers’ golf days. The Club also goes on a short tour most summers which are very popular playing some wonderful and challenging golf courses.
I am delighted to be President in this year which is our 100th year as a Club. I have been privileged to go through our archives and for our 100th celebrations have produced a brochure detailing some of our history and key people. I am sure you will find it as interesting to read as I did to research.
If you are considering joining the Club I look forward to welcoming you at one of our future events. If you are reading this as a current member I look forward to seeing you again soon.
